The Meaning of the Flag of North Rhine-Westphalia
North Rhine-Westphalia's flag was first introduced in 1948 and is a combination of the colors of the Prussian province Rhineland (green, white, white) with that of Westphalia (red). The symbols on the flag represents the various areas: Rhineland (white wavy line on a green background), Westphalia (white horse on red background), and Lippe (Rose) on a white background.
