The History of the Flag of Schleswig-Holstein
The Schleswig-Holstein flag is a combination of the colors of the Duchy of Schleswig (blue, yellow, white) and the Duchy of Holstein (red). The emblem on the flag depicts the heraldic symbols of the two countries, with the two blue lions of Schleswig and Holstein, and the white diamond triangle. The blue-white-red national flag was first created in 1900 as a patriotic flag, not recognized as official until the founding of Schleswig Holstein in 1945.
